The COURSE ORGANIZER gives a general overview of the course standards, questions, and sequence of concepts for the academic year.
The fifth grade Reading, L. Arts, Writing, and Spelling course is a multi-disciplinary approach to this broad area of work. Our main reading material is taken from Social Studies (We the People) which focuses on the constitution as well as readings from Science. Spelling words are gleaned from the Social Studies at present. The writing component is a synthesis of handwriting practice, composition, research skills, and grade appropriate conventions (spelling, capitalization, punctuation, and sentence formation.) General language arts skills will encompass the strategies of sentence writing, graphic organizers, and concept mastery.
